Is artificial intelligence (AI) taking over the world? Well, maybe not quite but let’s start with what it HAS taken over, in terms of K-media.
First, the K-pop industry has reached global status! The first time I saw AI being used was through K-pop groups. Specifically, Blackpink’s AI avatar, created by Zepeto through ‘generative AI’. It has the ability to create original content based on existing data. This is how Blackpink and Selena Gomez’s Ice Cream Cake dance performance came to be.

Generative AI seems to be also used for k-pop covers, which is a whole Tiktok trend in itself. If you’ve ever wondered what your favourite k-pop idol group would sound like with a totally different artist’s song, hop onto Tiktok and search ‘cause you’ll never know; the cover might just pop up! The most recent K-pop news related to AI, is Seventeen’s Maestro official teaser . At the beginning of the teaser, it is noted “a portion of the footage in this video was created using AI”. It is up to us to decide which parts were in fact made by AI, or by human creatives.

Popular influencers in Korea maybe just virtual too. like Apoki and Lechat. These Youtubers are the first of their kind, and become known for their advanced animation, cute appearance, where their talent shows through with k-pop covers.
But AI doesn’t stop here, you can also do a total transformation too… with filters! Using apps, you can write prompts and attach the image you want. The filter will go ahead and turn you into whatever prompt you suggest! Hence, how the #ps2filter became a trend, and the creations now are endless.

I guess you could say that this one’s more controversial that the others - AI Art, just like this Instagram post . I wouldn’t have guessed upon first glance, but once I read the bio, I very quickly realised this is an ‘AI studio’. This sparked debate in the comments where people questioned the Instagram user’s creativity. But AI is also used on a much, much larger scale. In fact, they are taking over the world! Just one example is when Jacquemus sent jumbo-sized bags down the streets of Paris, only to find out that this was all done through CGI.
The world is ever-evolving and AI is now a huge part of it, putting itself in the forefront of K-media too. So let's sit back and enjoy this high-tech drama unfold!
