We’ve all been there; buzzing at the prospects of planning a trip with our friends that ultimately ends up nowhere. Let’s unpack the quirks, personalities and the dynamics that keeps the group trip confined to the group chat.

The Planner

This character is usually the glue that holds the group together, but they can also quickly become the group's downfall. They can take things too far like crafting overly detailed itineraries that leave no room for any spontaneity. While their intentions are good, they can frustrate those in the group who would like a more flexible itinerary. We all have someone in the friend group who is a little (or A LOT) on the Type A side.

Tendencies:

⭐️ Over-schedules

⭐️ Reluctant to adapt

⭐️ Creates extensive presentations

Annoyance Factor:

7/10

The Control Freak

Usually this character isn’t too far off from the planner, however their insufferable need to have the last say can stifle the rest of the group's input. The control freaks desire to oversee every detail can lead to a few eye rolls from the group…especially the planner. They thrive on organisation and ensuring everything goes according to THEIR plan. Good luck to everyone else that isn't the control freak. *TREAD CAREFULLY

Tendencies:

⭐️ Micromanages

⭐️ Rigid

⭐️ Refuses to delegate

Annoyance Factor:

9/10

The Budget Buster

Indulging a little bit while travelling to a new country is perfectly fine - it’s part of the adventure. However, when that indulgence becomes an expectation, it can create headaches for those in the group who prefer a more budget-friendly approach. The budget buster's preference for an upscaled travel like Airbnb’s instead of hostels and eating out every night... This can quickly turn into a practical concern.

Tendencies:

⭐️ Overlooks costs

⭐️ Spends impulsively

⭐️ Ignores budget limits

Annoyance Factor:

7/10

The Indecisive One

This character is known for being unable to commit to choices. They slow down a lot of the group's decision making and creates hurdles for the rest of the group that just wants to move on. Their constant second-guessing can turn simple decisions into drawn-out debates which is not only annoying but can overshadow the excitement of planning a group trip. No one wants to dread a trip before they even go on one.

Tendencies:

⭐️ Constantly overthinks

⭐️ Confuses the group

⭐️ Avoids commitment

Annoyance Factor:

8.5/10

The Flake

This friend is known for their unpredictable nature - usually backing out of plans last minute or even failing to show up altogether. Their inconsistency can delay decision-making and most importantly, derange the group's dynamic. Essentially, they are the poster child for unreliability. You can make plans with them but don't expect a follow through - they'll either sleep through it, or something will "come up" last minute.

Tendencies:

⭐️ Fails to follow-through

⭐️ Cancels last-minute

⭐️ Makes excuses without taking accountability

Annoyance Factor:

8/10

Navigating group dynamics can be a challenge, especially when faced with diverse personalities. Each character brings their own unique strengths and weaknesses to the table, shaping the group's overall experience - although some have more weaknesses than others (talking to you, flake). Regardless, here’s hoping your next group trip makes it beyond the group chat!

Happy tripping, Beauties x
