HI-REVIEW: Benton Deep Green Tea Serum
I have been looking for a serum that can help with my skin sensitivities so I was really excited to try out the Benton Deep Green Tea Serum. Let's find out together if this serum can help us soothe my irritated skin!
Price: $24
Quantity: 30mL
How to use: Apply after toner on cleansed face. Follow with moisturiser.
The highlight ingredient of this product is 53% green tea from Korea, which claims to help soothe irritated skin and provide a calming cooling effect. Additionally, the nutrient components in green tea such as polyphenol, vitamin and mineral help maintain healthy and clear skin.
Here are other notable ingredients in the ingredient list
- Houttuynia Cordata Extract - this is one of my favourite ingredients and is an antioxidant that can help calm skin irritation and strengthen skin barrier.
- Centella Asiatica Extract – also known as cica, a very commonly seen ingredient in Korean skincare that soothes the skin and promotes wound healing.
- Three types of hyaluronic acid and panthenol (vitamin B5) - deliver deep hydration beneath the surface, helping skin stay bouncy and plump.
- Willow bark extract - lightly exfoliate to remove excess sebum and residue on the skin’s surface.
Packaging: Plastic bottle with an airless pump. An airless pump is where there is a disk positioned underneath the product and gets pushed upwards to dispense. Goodbye contamination and hello no product left when emptied!
Texture: This has a watery texture with a very faint brown tint (from green tea, no artificial colouring)
Scent: This product has no fragrance hence no scent.
Personal Experience
This serum was very easy to use, spreads nicely and absorbs fast into the skin. It has a slight tacky feeling but is not uncomfortable. I’ve been using this in both my AM and PM routine, it doesn’t pill under makeup and doesn’t cause irritation when paired with active ingredients such as chemical exfoliation or retinol. I didn’t feel the “cooling” sensation as described in the product description, but I didn’t mind not having it.
Now…on to things I didn't really enjoy - the packaging. The airless pump is really nice but the tip is a bit shallow so I couldn’t use my finger to apply it on my skin. I managed to work around it by dispensing directly on the face but still required me wipe it clean after every use (or just me being OCD). You can also avoid spillage by pumping in small increments, but I use 2 full pumps each time so it’s slightly inefficient. The hydration wasn’t quite enough for my dry skin for this to be a one-stop-shop so I‘ve been applying 2 layers most times. Overall, this serum is definitely packed with heaps of soothing ingredients however, I think this would be more beneficial for oily, dehydrated skin that’s prone to sensitivity and acne.
Note that this has a PAO (period after opening) of 6 months. It is an indication of the recommended time frame that the product can be used after opening. I’m almost halfway through the bottle so I don’t see this being an issue but just keep that in mind!
