HI-REVIEW: Mizon AHA BHA PHA Peeling Mist

by Kate Garside

Hi Beauties,

Today we’re looking into the wonderful world of chemical exfoliants with Mizon’s AHA BHA PHA Peeling Mist!

Price: $23

Quantity: 200ml

How To Use:

  1. Recommended once or twice a week.
  2. Shake the product well before use.
  3. Apply on areas that require exfoliation.
  4. Massage gently with your hands.
  5. Rinse with lukewarm water when the old keratin and waste is pushed out.

If you’ve ever looked into chemical exfoliation, chances are you’ve probably gotten a little confused with all the different abbreviations and what they mean, so let’s break it down.

AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which is basically just a group of acids including glycolic acid, tartaric acid, lactic acid, citric acid, and a couple of other acids. One of the main features (and differences) of AHAs is their molecule size. AHAs have the smallest molecular size when compared to BHAs and PHAs, meaning they can reach deeper levels of the skin, exfoliating deeper and giving a glow-from-within look. AHAs are also water soluble meaning they can be easily washed off.

BHA stands for Beta Hydroxy Acids, a group of acids containing salicylic acids and some forms of citric acid. BHA is a must-have for those of us with oily skin. BHA is fat soluble meaning it can penetrate into pores and help eliminate blackheads and oil build up better than other chemical exfoliants, making it great for acne-prone skin too.

PHA stands for Poly Hydroxy Acids. This group contains many different types of acids such as gluconolactone acid, lactobionic acid and maltobionic acid. Due to their larger molecular size PHAs can only reach more surface levels of the skin, meaning they’re gentler at exfoliating, so much better for people that have sensitive skin.

In a nutshell; AHAs are for dry, rough skin, BHAs are for oily skin, and PHAs are for sensitive skin.

Personal Opinion

I’ve been using this Peeling Mist for the past few weeks and there are some things I love, and some things I'm not so keen on, so let’s get into it!

I’ve used this mist on my face and as a body exfoliant. I definitely prefer it as a body exfoliant. One of the things I struggled with at first when using it as a facial exfoliant was the fact that it’s really hard to keep the mist out of your eyes. To avoid getting the mist in your eyes, I just used one hand to spray and one hand to cover my eyes. Though, initially it was a little difficult to use, it did make my skin feel super soft without drying it out, which I liked.

Since I was having trouble using this as a facial exfoliant at first, I tried using this as a body exfoliant, using it on my neck/chest area and my arms. I can get KP (Keratosis Pilaris) on my arms that flare up randomly during the year, and let me tell you, this peeling mist worked so well on clearing my KP. I also found that my skin was much softer and looked brighter when I used this spray regularly (about twice a week).

Overall I’d personally think this spray is perfect as an overall body exfoliant, especially as you get so much product in one bottle. I definitely recommend this peeling mist if you’re wanting super smooth bright skin!
