Bold, sassy and unapologetically floral - the official breakup from neutrals and faded fashion? Warning: Not for the fashion faint-hearted.

Flair and fearless attitude have taken centre-stage this week, and what it means to dress in Kiwi style has been reshaped forever. Unexpected runway moments, real street-edge fashion and star studded catwalks - this year’s lineup has been anything but predictable. Ready to see why subtlety is officially timed out?

Let’s talk bold:

Kicked Off In Style

(Tango, Tassels and… Taika?)

Day one, and the headlines came rolling in: the vibes at Shed 10 were high and filled with drama and flair! Swirls of tassels, hints of fiery passion, and plenty of bold statements that fueled the fire and had everyone talking.

Taika Waititi strutted in style, wearing Zambesi’s beautiful silk robe, a testament to fashion designers that have defined New Zealand’s fashion scene. Stan Walker was also sighted on the side of the catwalk, sporting his You Know clothing brand alongside his beautiful wife Lou.

Straight On The Runway

(Spoiler: Dogs Included!)

Juliette Hogan’s show flourished in florals and flowing fabrics, with up and coming model Sophie Song opening - showcasing the beauty and elegance of her pieces. We can’t forget the statement, sleek and sophisticated pieces that starred in Claudia Li’s collection; it was creative, fresh and a hopeful nod to fashion’s evolving future.

Internet personality, foodie and model Albert Cho debuted his dog Chewie into the world of fashion, reminding us that fashion can be fun, cute and wholesome! We felt like proud parents watching Chewie grow from featuring in TikTok, to stealing the show.

As Seen On The Streets

(Who Said The Fun Stays On The Runway?)

We can’t forget the spectators who didn’t just come to watch - but to serve. Day 2’s hit list included Jungwon Jo and Rachel Soo not matching, but twinning with their classy black and white outfits; Rachel repurposing her belt as a classy neck tie, and Jungwon donning a beautiful silk scarf in her hair. Talk about classy and timeless!

Tessa Patricks made a statement in her beautiful asymmetrical dress, light wash jeans and kafir from Palestine wrapped around her waist, and Bethany Petts layered up with bold colours and feminine twists in her fit checks on social media.

Strutting Next

(Fashion Forecast For Tamaki Makaurau)

What’s not to look forward to? Beats us. Kowtow plans for a designer clothes swap, pushing the boundaries for circular and sustainable fashion, upcoming panels with forward thinking designers by the likes of Stolen Girlfriends founder Marc Moore, Karen Walker and Kiri Nathan are on the horizon, and gossip is bound to spread once the show comes to a conclusion.

NZFW 2025 isn’t just about clothes - it’s about culture, community and shaking things up. This week has had no shortage of celebrating history, self-expression and challenging the norm - we expect many more collaborations and fresh takes to bring New Zealand’s fashion to the next level!
