"Korean Skincare Routine? 10 Steps? 8 Steps?"

Finding a skin care routine that works for you can seem like a never-ending beauty quest. With so much skincare talk and millions of products to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to focus on.

But above all the myths, are 8 basic steps that form the foundation of an effective skin care routine. It is all about building up your daily skincare steps to get best result! I know we all want that clear, healthy and at the end of the day, glass skin.

1. Oil Cleanser

Basically, oil cleansers remove makeup (yes, waterproof too!), SPF and other oil-based impurities. Most makeup products are oil based so it is important to use oil cleanser to remove it. Cleansing oils are also able to penetrate deep into pores, allowing for effortless cleansing rather than tugging at your skin to remove that last wing of eyeliner.

Oil cleanser not only remove makeup, it also removes oil/excess sebum. I know those with oily skin may think to avoid oil cleanser but remember “oil removes oil!”. It melts the sebum and dirt from your pores to improve skin texture while balancing skin’s pH level.

2. Water Based Cleanser

Water-based Cleansers will remove everything else! You might be surprised to find so many types - foams, gels, milks even powders 🧼 Each one is suited for different skin types, so find your best one here!

3. Exfoliator

You don’t always have to exfoliate (especially if you have sensitive skin), but keep in mind that exfoliating at least twice a week is crucial for clear and bright skin.

Sloughing off dead skin cells makes it possible for the rest of your skin care products to penetrate through pores and do its magic. Gently massage and tap your chosen exfoliator into your skin for smooth and silky skin.

4. Toner

Toner helps to remove anything else that you've missed - use with a cotton pad and you may be left surprised! As you get that extra cleanse in, toners are also restoring your skin’s pH balance.

In K-beauty, toners are meant to be hydrating, which is maybe why they are also called “refreshers”. Soothe and prep your skin so your next steps will absorb deeper...

5. Special Treatment

Here is where it gets a bit confusing - there are many many different special treatments in K-Beauty. You may have heard of essence, serum, ampoules, eye cream and so on.. so let's keep it simple:

Essence - a K-beauty essential! They have a water-like texture, sinking deeply into the skin to speed up skin cell turnover rate - a must to smooth and bright complexions!

Serum or Ampoule are super concentrated versions of essence. They're formulated with active ingredients that target specific needs by skin type such as fine lines, loss of firmness, brightening and dehydration. You can customise your special treatments steps: adding or removing products as you see fit.

Eye cream is the must-do step if you are over 20s. Skin around the eyes is very sensitive, becoming thinner and more dehydrated. Wrinkles around the eyes are the first changes that you can see as you age. So start preventing fine lines and wrinkles, instead of hitting regret later!

6. Moisturiser

Some people might skip this step. However K-beauty skin care is all about layering. As you layer each skin step, see the glow and plumpness... and lock everything in with a moisturiser!

Moisturisers are the final step for a reason - they trap in moisture, keeping the skin hydrated whenever, wherever you are!

7. Mask

If you want to have the iconic K-pop idol's glass skin, this is a secret tip for you. Sheet mask contains at least 15ml of concentrated serum or ampoules. So apply a mask and after using it, you'll see instant improvement in your skin.

Craving something more? Use sleeping masks at the last step of your night-time skincare routine. Sleeping masks are a fairly new concept in non-Asian countries. The reality is sleeping masks are not messy at all! All you need is a coin sized amount to massage into your face, which will absorb quickly upon application.

The revitalising effects are extremely addicting, with your skin feeling softer and looking bright and refreshed as soon as you wake up!

8. Sun Care

Using sunscreen is the most important step in your daily skincare. Protecting your skin from UV rays sun prevents skin from getting wrinkles, being dehydrated and becoming saggy. Even in winter time, it is important to apply sunscreen before you go out. Apply 20 minutes before you go out and don't forget to reapply!

What skincare products can I use for mature skin for the wrinkles, that is also very sensitive with hyperpigmentation

Maritza

Hi Vianna,
If you’re wearing sunscreen or makeup everyday, we recommend double cleansing to get rid of oil-based products.
Hope this helps xx
