HI-REVIEW: Numbuzin No.3 Skin Softening Serum

by Claire De Guzman

The Numbuzin No.3 Skin Softening Serum has gained cult status online, being described by many as a ‘holy grail’ product for improving skin texture including the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pores. One review even said it makes you glow even when you’ve had no sleep! As a mum of a very energetic one year old, this definitely caught my attention. I would love a full night’s sleep but since that is pretty rare these days, I would happily settle on at least looking like I’ve had a decent night’s sleep. So I decided to test it out and see if it was worth the hype.

Price: $40

Quantity: 50ml

How to use:

After using toner, apply 3-4 drops onto skin and pat gently until absorbed.

Product features

The serum has an impressive list of ingredients, with two popular fermented ingredients doing the bulk of the heavy lifting - Bifida Ferment Lysate and Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate.

The use of fermented ingredients in skincare has become increasingly popular in recent years. The ingredients are packed with all of the good things, as the process of fermentation naturally produces vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants. It also breaks down molecules, making them smaller and easier for the skin to absorb.

I did a bit of research and found that Bifida Ferment Lysate, which makes up 42% of the formula, is a type of probiotic that works by strengthening the skin’s immune system, helping it repair itself. It protects skin from UV damage and has hydrating and anti-aging properties. Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate minimises the appearance of pores, reduces sebum production and brightens skin.

Other key ingredients include Niacinamide which boosts hydration, and Adenosine which soothes and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

Personal experience

I’m a big fan of nice packaging and this serum bottle with its frosted glass and thin black font is sleek, beautiful and minimalistic. The dropper is fantastic too, it picks up so much product with just one squeeze. The serum is watery and light, not sticky at all and absorbs quickly into my skin. Once applied, it has a slightly warming, tingly feeling, giving the impression it’s already taking effect. All this works together to create a luxurious experience, which I believe is such an important part of a skincare and self care routine.

I felt like my skin was a bit smoother after I started using it, but it wasn’t until I had used it twice a day for two weeks that I suddenly noticed a significant change. One morning I was washing my face when I realised my skin was so smooth and looked brighter too. I’ve also just gone back to work after maternity leave and went from barely wearing any make up for more than a year to wearing it every day again. Usually I would see the effects of this on my skin, with more clogged pores and bumps, however my skin has continued to be clear (apart from the odd hormonal blemish) and smooth.

I’ve now used the serum every day for almost a month, and my skin texture has improved noticeably, however I don’t think it has minimised my fine lines. But I did have a friend comment on my ‘glow’ recently so maybe I am indeed on my way to looking like I’ve had a full night’s sleep?

Overall, I really enjoyed using this serum and would recommend it to anyone looking for a gentle product that improves skin texture while adding a little luxury to your day.
