HI-REVIEW: Pyunkang Yul Black Tea Enriched Cream

by Claire De Guzman

If you are worried about dry, flaky skin this winter, the Pyunkang Yul Black Tea Enriched Cream is a great one to add to your skincare routine.

Price: $75

Quantity: 60ml

How to use: At the last step of skincare, take an appropriate amount and massage it on your face until absorbed.

Product features

Ginseng and Kombucha (fermented tea) are the heroes of this cream and well-known for their health benefits. Ginseng is an ancient herb with more than 5000 years of history, and has anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties. Kombucha, through the fermenting process, is rich in vitamins, antioxidants and probiotics.

The cream also contains Peptides, which are proteins that penetrate the skin to deliver moisture, and Adenosine which stimulates collagen production, to decrease the appearance of fine lines.

Personal Experience

I have sensitive, combination, acne-prone skin and Pyunkang Yul products are firm favourites of mine. Because the formulas are so gentle and they use basic yet effective ingredients, my skin has pretty much loved every Pyunkang Yul  product I’ve ever put on it. So I was very excited to be given the opportunity to try the new Black Tea line, which was only released earlier this year. Pyunkang Yul’s Black Tea range is also at a higher price point than their other lines so I was interested to see if it’s worth the price.

My first impression of the cream is that it is thick, however it didn’t feel too heavy on my skin. In winter, I do need something heavier, especially at night, to keep my skin from drying out. I had previously been using a combination of two moisturisers to keep my skin hydrated; the Pyunkang Yul Moisture Cream and a small amount of CosRX Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream on top.

As this Black Tea Enriched Cream is thicker than the Moisture Cream, I wanted to see if I could get away with only using the one moisturiser this winter. I’ve now been using the cream morning and night for coming up to a month (all throughout June), and I’ve been able to use it as my standalone moisturiser. I really like how it feels on my skin, and my skin is nicely hydrated and smooth. However as I have combination skin, when I wake up in the morning I do sometimes experience a slightly oily forehead (which isn’t an issue for me), so this might be too heavy for those with oily skin types.

The container is also filled to the brim, and you definitely get a decent amount of product for the price. A little goes a long way, and I’ve been using it twice a day for nearly a month and I’m still just getting past the neck part of the bottle. It might even last me all winter!

Overall, I’m a fan of this cream, and because I’m using one cream instead of two, it makes the higher price worth it for me. Another solid example of Pyunkang Yul doing what they do best: creating gentle yet incredibly effective basics.
