HI-REVIEW: SOME BY MI Yuja Niacin 30 Days Blemish Care Serum

by Cindy Lu

Hey Beauties!

Have you ever tried the Some By Mi Miracle Line for acne? Their toner especially is considered a holy grail for many! Less well known is their Yuja line for brightening 😊 In this blog, I’ll be breaking down the Yuja Niacin 30 Days Blemish Care Serum during the 4 weeks that I’ve tested it.

Firstly, this product claims to be a “CONCENTRATED BRIGHTENING SERUM THAT HELPS ALLEVIATE BLEMISHES AND FRECKLES”. It also claims to boost collagen and brighten the skin in general by using the 83% Yuja Extract and Niacinamide.

Price: $32

Quantity: 50mL

How to Use: Take an appropriate amount and spread evenly onto the skin

Product Features: This particular serum has a light-weight gel formulation. The texture of the serum feels more like a watery-gel consistency rather than a pure gel. Upon application, it dries down quickly with minimal stickiness and no oily residue. I found this pretty nice especially because I use quite a few products.

The initial reason why this product attracted me in the first place was the smell. When I tried it in the store, it had such a pleasant smell! I am sure it is from the 83% Yuzu Extract, giving it a sweet and subtle citrusy fragrance. However, when applying the serum, the smell doesn’t linger for too long! Personally, this is a positive point for the product because it prevents the smell from overpowering my nose.

Citrus Junos Fruit Extract (82.37%), Niacinamide (5%), Butylene Glycol1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, C12-14 Pareth-12, Water, Trehalose, C12-14 Pareth-7, Carbomer, Citrus Junos Peel Oil(293 Ppm), Tromethamine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Coptis Chinensis Root Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Agrimonia Eupatoria Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Cellulose Gum, Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Disodium EDTA, Arbutin, Perilla Frutescens Leaf Extract, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Saussurea Involucrata Extract, Glucose, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Extract, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Panthenol, Glutathione, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Maltodextrin, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, Pancratium Maritimum Extract, Folic Acid, Biotin, Pyridoxine, Tocopherol, Cyanocobalamin, Linoleic Acid, Thiamine Hcl, Beta-Carotene, Riboflavin, Inositol, Limonene, Linalool

The main highlight ingredients are the Yuja Extract (83%) and Niacinamide (5%).

Yuja extract is a citrus fruit grown in Korea and is used in skincare as a Vitamin C derivative. If you didn’t know, vitamin C is one of the most known ingredients for skin brightening and fading scars! Vitamin C derivatives on the other hand, are a less effective but more gentle alternative for vitamin C serums that produce similar results. As it claims, it provides brightening effects, hyperpigmentation fading and collagen boosting as well.

Although this is my first time using a Yuja product, Niacinamide on the other hand I am super familiar with. I am a huge advocate for Niacinamide products because of the brightening, pore-shrinking, and anti-acne effects! As someone with acne-prone skin, I always have a niacinamide product alongside a BHA exfoliant. This is just something that I have found works for my skin :)

There are a few other ingredients such as glutathione, arbutin, and licorice root which are all great ingredients that help with further brightening of the skin

Personal Opinion

During the 4 weeks of testing this product, I found the Yuja Niacin 30 Days Blemish Care Serum to be a really solid product! Surprisingly, I managed to see some brightening effects and acne scar fading during the short time using this serum. It wasn’t a very dramatic change, but a subtle change overtime. I was shocked because this serum is quite gentle because there is a relatively low percentage of Niacinamide compared to other products that I use. For this reason, I would highly recommend those with more sensitive and/or acne-prone skin to give this product a try, especially if you haven’t ever used Vitamin C or Niacinamide products!

Another thing to add about this product is that the light-weight formulation may be a pro or a con for some people. The one downside of this product is that it is not as hydrating as I thought it would be. As someone with dry-combination skin, it was a must to add a hydrating product with a moisturiser on top of this serum during my night-time routine. Although this product is not drying or irritating, my skin needs some extra moisture which this serum doesn’t give. This can be amazing for someone with oily skin who prefers a more minimal routine! Overall, I wouldn’t say that this product is super life-changing but it is suitable for many skin types due to how gentle and light-weight the product is. I would recommend it for anyone looking to start incorporating brightening products into their routine 🍋
