Cleanse With the Right Ingredients For You

by Michelle Li

We’re taking it back to the basics with the first step in our skincare routine, cleansing ✨ A must for clear and blemish-free skin as it’s the best way to remove any impurities built up. Cleansing eliminates bacteria to not only keep our skin clear from breakouts but any skincare steps applied afterward are absorbed much more effectively as well. Like finding serums and creams suitable for your skin type, we should do the same with cleansers. This means finding cleansers that have suitable ingredients for your skin type.

Acne-Prone/Oily Skin

For acne-prone skin types or oily skin, finding a cleanser with a combination of chemically exfoliating benefits and calming properties will not only help breakouts but prevent them from happening in the first place. Chemical exfoliants like AHA and BHA benefit oily and acne-prone skin because of its ability to reach deep into pores to remove dead skin cells, excess sebum, and other forms of bacteria. By unclogging pores and keeping your skin clean, breakouts are less likely to occur. Finding cleansers with chemical exfoliants in addition to skin calming ingredients will not only soothe the skin but also strengthen the skin barrier which means clearer skin as acne is less likely to develop.

The COSRX AC Collection Calming Foam Cleanser is a suitable option to not only cleanse the skin but treat blemishes too. The COSRX foaming cleanser has a CentellAC-Rx Complex which contains three variations of the Centella Asiatica plant to strengthen, soothe and heal the skin 🌿  In combination with salicylic acid, this foam cleanser gently exfoliates while thoroughly cleansing the skin from within the pores to prevent breakouts in the future.

Sensitive Skin

Keeping your skin barrier strong is vital for sensitive skin to ensure that your skin cells are functioning properly. This means maintaining it’s natural ability to balance oil and moisture as well as keeping bacteria out. Sensitive skin tends to have a weakened skin barrier so when it comes to cleansers, it's important to find one that doesn’t disrupt the skin barrier even more. Low pH cleansers are one of the best ways to do this as it keeps your skin's natural pH level balanced so it can function properly and continue to protect itself. Using low pH cleansers, also means it won’t leave sensitive skin feeling tight and inflamed after cleansing.

The Etude Soon Jung PH 6.5 Whip Cleanser is a lightweight foam cleanser that leaves your skin at a neutral PH level of 6.5. This is an optimal level for the skin to function properly to protect itself from environmental stressors. This cleanser also contains panthenol and skin-calming ingredient, madecassoside which not only helps strengthen the skin barrier but soothes skin's redness and inflammation.

Dry and Dull Skin

Finding moisturizing cleansers that contain emollients and brightening ingredients will not only leave the skin feeling soft and supple but it will also have it looking radiant as well. With this skin type, we recommend finding ingredients that contain emollients like plant oils to provide moisture to the skin. Emollients have the ability to protect and heal the cracks in the skin cells so no hydration and moisture escape. This means the skin can stay plump, supple, and healthy. Brightening ingredients can also be a huge plus for dry skin types. Due to the loss of hydration and moisture, this tends to mean skin is more likely to look dull. But thankfully, there are brightening ingredients that can help this skin type achieve a more glowy complexion.

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright collection’s featured ingredient is rice bran oil which gently cleanses the skin to leave it feeling soft and supple 🌾  Not only is it able to thoroughly remove any dirt and impurities built up but as it is an emollient, it’s able to leave dry skin feeling moisturized even after cleansing, making it ideal for dry skin. The rice bran oil also has the ability to brighten up the skin so it's deal for dry and dull skin types who want a more radiant complexion.

Finding suitable products can really be a struggle considering there are so many options out there with different ingredients. But that just means for us, there's something that will work just for us. Hopefully, we have made it easier for you to find a cleanser that suits your personal preference!

Thanks for reading!

Until next time, bye Beauties 🐰💕
