HI-TIPS: How to Handle Combination Skin

Hi guys! 🐰🌸

Do you suffer from an oily T-zone but have dry patches under your eyes and cheeks? Or do you notice your T-zone getting super oily throughout the day while the rest of your face feels a bit tight and almost flaky?

Today I will be sharing some useful tips for all our COMBINATION SKIN beauties out there πŸ’«

Combination skin is where your skin experiences both oiliness and dryness at the same time. The difference between combination skin and oily skin depends on which part of your skin is gets oily. Oily skin types will experience a uniform greasiness on their face whereas combination-skinned people only have patches of oiliness. Common signs of combination skin include:

  • An oily T-zone
  • Dullness and roughness around your nose and chin
  • Dryness under the eyes and around the perimeter of your face

You have combination skin if you are essentially dealing with two different skin types: oily and dry! This may seem quite daunting for some because how are we supposed to mattify our T-zone without stripping the rest of our face from moisture?

Here are some tips I incorporate into my beauty routine that I hope you will find helpful!

Β

1. USE A GENTLE FACIAL CLEANSER

A common misconception in the beauty world is that harsher cleansers are better for oily skin. This is far from the truth ❌ Harsher cleansers may help with the oiliness of your T-zone, but it can also dry out the other parts of your face even more.

In the mornings, I enjoy using the Heimish All Clean Green Foam pH 5.5 for a gentle wash 🧼 It is formulated to suit all skin types, even sensitive skin which is quite common amongst combination skinned people as well.

At night, I prefer to use the NEOGEN Real Fresh Foam Green Tea cleanser for a deeper cleanse 🌱 The fermented green tea extract works to brighten and hydrate the skin which is perfect if you struggle with a dull complexion.

2. BLOTTING AND POWDERING THE OIL AWAY

My T-zone always gets pretty shiny after a few hours of putting make-up on. If the same thing happens to you, try investing in some blotting paper that you gently press onto your skin to absorb the oil up. The Green Tea Oil Control Film from Aritaum is a really good option you can find! ✨

Bonus tip: Even on the days I don’t wear make-up, I like to pat a bit of the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder as a last step of my routine to mattify my skin.

3. EXFOLIATION

Another crucial tip in caring for combination skin is to exfoliate! Exfoliation clears away all the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin that can cause break-outs and blackheads. I recommend trying a gentle scrub such as Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish which leaves your skin smooth and hydrated after 🍬

If you are a fan of chemical exfoliants and do not have sensitive skin, I enjoy the Mizon AHA 8% Peeling Serum. It contains 8% AHA, known as glycolic acid, which gently exfoliates your skin by clearing dead skin cells and brightens hyperpigmentation. Use this before the rest of your serums!
