Is Double or Triple Cleansing Necessary?
Hi Beauties!
Today, I am going to talk about double/triple cleansing. I guess many of you are already doing double cleansing if you wear make-up. Then why is double/triple cleansing necessary? Is it just putting a lot of steps to effectively remove all the waste on our skin? Well, if you do it in the right way double cleansing will allow your skin to be in perfect condition to absorb the next skin products.
As now we have more time at home, it is the chance to concentrate on what our skin is telling us. So today I would like to introduce the importance of double/triple cleansing, which products to use and some tips on double/triple cleansing. Let’s check it out together!
Why is double/triple cleansing important, which products to use first & last
Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your face twice. First with an oil-based cleanser and second with a water-based cleanser. Oil/balm type cleansers are very good at dissolving stubborn, waterproof makeup as they can get inside the pore where oil and waste build-up. They also help in balancing the amount of oil on your skin while cleansing. Foam, gel or powder type of the second cleanser removes stubborn, pore-clogging and acne-causing impurities that remain from the first cleansing. Your second cleanser will also need to address your particular skin type or concern as it has ingredients to hydrate, smooth or exfoliate your skin.
To triple cleanse, start with an oil-based cleanser, followed by a cream cleanser or a makeup remover, and then finish with a foam, gel or powder type of water-based cleanser. Another way to triple cleanse is to start with a cleansing wipe before using an oil-based cleanser. Whichever cleansers you use, the overall idea of going further in removing waste on your skin and allowing for deeper cleansing is the same. But if you have a dry skin type, you need to be careful as multiple cleansing can strip out natural oil from your skin too much!
Product recommendation
Having said that, choosing the ones that go well with your skin type and mix-matching them would be another challenge. But if you use the best double-cleansing products for your skin type, they will help you to get the most out of your routine by avoiding over-washing and over-drying your skin. Let’s have a look at the tips below on which cleansing duo will give your skin the best healthy glow! For dry, sensitive skin
Heimish All Clean Balm = $25NZD / 120ml
If you have dry, sensitive skin then all clean balm is for you. It effectively melts off even the most stubborn makeup, without leaving any thick residues. If you have a dry skin type, this product is also great for one-step cleansing without the second step as it effectively removes makeup for a single step as well. With natural botanical extracts like Freesia and Iris, your skin won't be left tight and dry.
For oily, combination skin

This product is highly recommended for those who do not like the thick residue feeling after using an oil cleanser. It effectively removes makeup without any greasy feeling. Despite an oil cleanser, this product has an almost water-like texture. Enriched with jojoba oil, it dissolves impurities found on your skin's surface while hydrating the epidermis. Relaxing smell is a bonus!

For dry, sensitive skin
COSRX Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser = $14NZD / 150ml
If someone asks me what the best-selling foam cleanser at Hikoco is, I would definitely say that it’s the Low ph. good morning cleanser! Just like its name, it has a very gentle and mild formula with ph. level of 5.0-6.0. Also great for double cleansing and especially recommended if you are looking for a soothing and moisturizing cleanser!
Wrong cleansing habits, Tips on double/triple cleansing
There are also a few things that we need to remember when we do double-cleansing. First thing is, to use lukewarm water. Hot water makes your skin lose moisture rapidly particularly when doing a double cleanse! Second, double cleansing is recommended only once a day (especially during night time when you remove your makeup and waste from your skin). This is because If we strip too much of our natural oils, our body can respond by producing more oil that can lead to breakouts and irritation. The last thing to remember is to use a moisturizer after your cleansing routine. I would like to recommend applying a toner for the first step after the cleansing as it helps to prep your skin for moisturizer. It helps to remove any residues from the cleansing as well!
