Stop Clogged Pores with Proper Moisture Steps

by Michelle Li

With the sun out and slowly getting warm outside, it’s evitable that our skin may be producing more oil and sebum than the past winter season. This means more chances of clogged pores, especially if we aren’t taking the necessary steps to prevent them from happening. Clogged pores develop if oil, dirt, and impurities get trapped in the pores. This can eventually lead to blackheads, acne, and breakouts. But even with all this, keeping skin staying hydrated and moisturised is important but how can we do this without clogging pores if they are already prone to doing so? Well, there are definitely some key tips to remember to prevent this from happening. Let’s start right from the beginning of your skincare routine!

Switch to Gel Cleansers

Using gel cleansers can be much gentler on the skin. They are formulated to make fewer bubbles than foam cleansers to prevent them from drying out your skin. Why is this important? Using cleansers that dry out your skin will lead it to naturally overcompensate by producing oil. This excess sebum can easily make pores more clogged. Not only that, it can make your skin crave more moisturising products after cleansing now that it feels tight and dry. And come to find out you may not have needed it in the first place! The Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturising Cleanser is gel-based so it creates minimal foam to not leave your skin feeling stripped after cleansing. But don’t worry you are still getting a proper cleanser as it creates micro-bubbles that will reach deep into the pores to give your skin an effective cleanse. Plus it contains birch sap which is a lightweight hydrator, leaving your skin feeling supple and hydrated even after your cleansing step.

Layer With Lightweight Products

It may be easier to have a one-and-done skincare product to both hydrate and moisturise the skin. So you may lead yourself to use products that are thicker for your skin and these actually contain a lot of emollient-based ingredients. This can clog pores especially if your skin is producing more oil and sebum in the hot weather. Instead, gently apply products that have a super light texture and if you do feel like you need that extra hydration, don’t be afraid to layer it on top of each other. Finding an essence may just be what you need! Essences tend to go through a fermentation process, so it makes the molecules of ingredients smaller. This means the ingredients are able to penetrate deeper and give your skin their maximum benefits and efficacy. But it does it all without compromising on a lightweight texture!  So feel free to layer up the essence if you want more hydration and worry less about it clogging your pores. In the warmer months, finding a calming essence may be great after a day out in the sun. The I'm From Mugwort Essence contains 100% mugwort extract to soothe and calm down the skin. And it is so light it won’t clog the pores even if you layer it up for that extra hydration.

Seal it in With Non-Comedogenic Moisturisers

And lastly, don’t forget to moisturise! To seal all that hydration in, moisturising is important. Even though it can be tempting to skip this step because of the hot weather, dryness can make your skin want to naturally produce more oil and thus, lead to clogged pores. Finding a non-comedogenic moisturiser makes it simple and be sure that pores won't clog up. Non-comedogenic means they don’t contain a lot of ingredients that are considered oil-based so there is much less chance for oil and sebum to be left in the pores. The Pyunkang Yul ATO Moisturising Soothing Gel Lotion may be best suited to get that extra burst of hydration as it combines hyaluronic acid and flower extracts while sealing it in with a moisturising ingredient, ceramide. Its effective ingredients mean it will properly moisturise the skin but with a lightweight formula that won't clog pores.
