Nick // Oily-Combination & Acne Skin // Mid 20s

I was very humbled to have been chosen and I’m very happy that I got the opportunity to give my thoughts and opinions on a product that may help someone on their journey with skincare.

Please note that I tried my best to be as unbiased and honest in this review. This is the first time I have done this but I have a good sense of what it feels like to be a customer/consumer who does lots of research and takes the opinions of those on the internet before pulling the trigger on purchases.

1. OVERVIEW

  • Received product on the 16th of March 2020
  • Product packaging was satisfactory - was very clean but eye catching

    • The yellow matches the key ingredient sulfur

    • Smooth, lightly tinted, light gel consistency

    • No initial scent/smell

  • My skin type is oily-combination and is quite sensitive

    • Oily T-zone area (forehead and nose)

    • Relatively dry cheeks and jawline

  • The main thing that I wanted to focus on improving was the appearance of new and active spots. I have used benzoyl peroxide spot treatments but I feel like my skin is used to it and the spots and it felt like they had much effect on my skin anymore.

2. How did I use the product?

  • Started use on the 16th of March as a PM spot treatment as the last step (as per instructions)
  • Cotton tip was used to apply onto spots (as per product instructions) every 1-2 days
  • Used a moderate amount to cover the spot or area that I wanted to treat (mainly active spots)

  • I only used it for spots which were more superficial (ie. not for any nodules, cysts or those that were felt to be deeper in the skin)

3. Honest Review

This product is a great alternative for people struggling with fungal acne (ie. pityrosporum folliculitis or malassezia folliculitis) or those who want to try something other spot treatments that don’t contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

After a few days of use on newly developing and active spots - it did a pretty decent job at decreasing the inflammation and drying out the spots. The slightly yellow gel is smooth and spreads very easily on the skin - a little goes a long way. After a few seconds of blending - there is no yellow tint left on the skin. Whilst sulfur has a tendency to dry out my skin, this gel didn’t do that as it contains hyaluronic acid. I have sensitive oily-combination acne prone skin and would recommend this for people who have a similar skin type to mine.

Pros:

  • Treated spots by drying and reducing inflammation

  • Weightless and smooth gel with no tint

  • A little goes a long way - easy to smooth and blend

  • Product packaging is super vibrant and clean

One of the main cons about this product is the smell after it has dried on the skin. The product doesn’t seem to contain any fragrances or essential oils and I believe that this scent comes from the sulfur (it smells ‘stale’) - this is quite typical of products containing sulfur. Saying that, I would recommend it for use at night rather than during the day. Even after cleansing my skin the morning - the smell would sometimes linger. If you are sensitive to scents be careful where you apply this (around the nose, mouth and etc).

Cons:

  • Smell is quite strong after the product dries on the skin

  • Have to be careful where you apply this product due to the smell

Yay or Nay?

Overall, given the pros and cons above, I would rate this product a 4/5 and would say that this product is a YAY.

Personally, I would potentially purchase the product if it was stocked at $36 NZD but saying that, there are cheaper (albeit non-sulfur) alternatives out there. It would depend on how other spot treatments in your portfolio are priced - however, I know that product margins are a large factor in this decision.

In conclusion, I would personally rate this product a YAYespecially if you have found that other spot treatments just aren’t working for you anymore - this is a great alternative and would definitely recommend you try this one out if you get the chance!
