HI-REVIEW: Pyunkang Yul Balancing Gel

by Kate Garside

Hi Beauties! What if I told you a skincare product could be liquid and solid at the same time? The Pyunkang Yul Balancing Gel is sometimes liquid, and sometimes solid, and it all depends on how fast you use it and how much pressure you use. Grab your favourite drink and settle down, because you’re going to want to read more about this gel!

Price: $43

Quantity: 100ml

How To Use:

Balancing Gel has a strong cohesive force to moisturise the skin. It may clump when rubbed, so after applying a moisturising cream, apply a thin layer to the palm of your hand at the final stage of skincare.

When it comes to creating deeply moisturising products, powerhouse skincare brand Pyunkang Yul knows a thing or two. They’re my absolute favourite brand for all things hydrating, and their products always exceed my expectations. So when I heard about this Balancing Gel, I was keen to get my hands on it. Pyunkang Yul is known for its minimalist approach to all things skin. And it focuses its products around “delivering the basics of what your skin needs, with the safest formula possible” rather than following trends.

You can see they really stick by this principle when looking at the ingredients of this gel. It only has 7 ingredients, most of which are derived from plants. Such as the Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, which is known for its incredible antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also contains a good amount of Glyceryl, which is a humectant. A humectant is a substance that helps the skin retain moisture, it can also pull moisture from the air to help keep skin hydrated, relieve dryness and refresh the skin’s surface.

Personal Opinion

As I mentioned above, this is honestly the strangest skincare product I've ever used (and trust me, I've used a LOT of skincare products in my time!). This product has a non-Newtonian fluid nature to it. Which, putting it VERY simply, means when force is applied to it, it’s solid. But when no force is applied, it’s liquid. This makes it very interesting to apply to your skin.

The faster you try and use this product, the more gel/rubbery the texture is. So if you try to rub it on your face, it pills. But the second you stop rubbing it, it returns to a liquid texture. I’ve found that the best way to get a nice even coat is to use the product slowly, gently working it into your skin, as this gives the best coverage.

As far as its claims of being moisturising, this gel is honestly the most hydrating product I have ever used. It holds moisture so well that when I apply it at night before bed, my skin still feels incredibly moisturised, almost the same as when I applied it, when I wake up the next day. It’s not greasy at all, despite containing natural plant oils. And due to its sticky nature, it’s AMAZING to use as a primer for make-up.

It also doesn’t have a scent, making it great for sensitive skin beauties. After using it for a few weeks, it’s helped calm down inflammation I was struggling with on my cheeks, and my skin looks plump and hydrated. I’m excited to see how moisturising this gel is during the summer months, and to see if it can keep my skin looking hydrated when I'm out in the sun.

Once again, Pyunkang Yul has reinforced what I already thought about them - when it comes to skincare, there really is no one better!
